Assam: Youth tied to electric pole, thrashed in public over theft allegation

A youth in Bilasipara, Assam was thrashed by public after being accused of stealing rice. The incident occurred at Chowk Bazaar in Ward No. 12 of Bilasipara town, where the victim was forcibly tied to an electric pole with his hands bound and assaulted by passersby.

Eyewitnesses reported that the youth was beaten by whoever happened to cross the spot, drawing strong condemnation from several quarters.

Local residents have demanded immediate and stern action from the Bilasipara police against all those responsible for this shocking display of mob justice. 

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding arrests or further investigation into the matter.
