In a humanitarian initiative, Ghumra Police and local journalists jointly distributed cooked food and safe drinking water to truck drivers stranded along National Highway-6 after the damage to the Ghumra Bridge disrupted traffic movement.
The damage to the bridge has brought the movement of goods-laden trucks on the highway to a complete halt for several days, leaving hundreds of trucks stranded along the stretch from Ghumra to Malidahar in Assam's Cachar district.
With the prolonged disruption, many truck drivers have been facing an acute shortage of food and drinking water while remaining stranded on the highway.
Recognising their hardship, Ghumra Police and members of the media came together to provide relief by distributing meals and bottled drinking water to the affected drivers.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by local residents, who praised the police and journalists for standing by the stranded truckers and demonstrating compassion during a difficult time.
