Assam’s Kaliabor villagers carry bamboo to Upper Assam to rebuild homes destroyed by floods

As devastating floods leave families homeless across Upper Assam, residents of Sri Sri Borsatra in Kaliabor have stepped forward to rebuild homes for those who lost everything in the deluge.
 

Sri Sri Borsatra is an ancient and historic religious institution in Kaliabor, Nagaon district. The satra has played an active role in preserving the region’s spiritual traditions and heritage and has also been involved in various social welfare activities.
 

The residents have taken up the initiative to build around 30 houses for homeless families in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts, which were badly affected by the floods.
 

Instead of waiting for outside assistance, villagers have cut bamboo from their own homesteads and collected other essential materials required for construction.
 

Carrying bamboo and other materials, a group of residents has travelled to the flood-hit areas of Upper Assam to begin constructing the houses for the affected families.
 

The initiative is a community-led effort to help families who have been left without shelter after the floods destroyed their homes across several parts of the State.
