In a move aimed at promoting peace, social harmony and communal unity, the Lathigram Eidgah Committee in West Udharband area of Assam’s Cachar district has appealed to people to refrain from cow sacrifice during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.
The decision was taken during an important meeting held at the Lathigram Eidgah premises ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, where members of the local Muslim community unanimously supported the appeal.
Community representatives urged residents to consider sacrificing alternative animals instead of cows in order to preserve social harmony and ensure that the religious sentiments of people from different communities are respected.
Speakers at the meeting noted that cows hold deep cultural and religious significance in traditional society and stressed the importance of maintaining communal goodwill.
“To preserve mutual respect and social harmony and to avoid hurting anyone’s religious sentiments, people should consider sacrificing animals other than cows,” members stated during the discussion.
Community leaders also emphasised that Islam promotes peace, brotherhood and coexistence, adding that no religious practice should become a reason for social tension or division.
The initiative by the Lathigram Eidgah Committee has drawn attention as a message of unity and peaceful coexistence ahead of Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in the region.
