Assam's Morigaon school shut for classes, both teachers deployed for census

The functioning of a government primary school in Assam's Morigaon district has come to a standstill after both teachers posted at the institution were deployed for census survey duties, leaving young students without regular classes since August 15.

The development has sparked concern among parents and local residents, who have questioned the decision to deploy both teachers from No. 2 Gonamara Primary School under the Mayong Education Block for census-related work simultaneously.

With no teacher available at the school, classroom teaching has remained suspended for over two weeks, effectively depriving students of their right to primary education.

Parents and conscious citizens have expressed strong resentment over the situation, alleging that the education department's decision has adversely affected the academic interests of the children. They have also questioned how a government school can be left without a teacher while the state continues to emphasise improving access to elementary education.

The situation has raised concerns over the implementation of the Right to Education framework, with locals demanding immediate intervention from the education authorities and the deployment of teachers so that classes can resume without further delay.
