The Morigaon district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest in the heart of Morigaon and burnt an effigy of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) following the fatal road accident at Sonapur on the previous night that claimed the lives of six people on the spot.
The protesters alleged that negligence and lapses on the part of the highway authorities contributed to the tragic accident and expressed strong resentment over the condition and management of the national highway.
The deaths have triggered reactions from different quarters, with the AJYCP demanding accountability and appropriate action against those responsible for alleged negligence.
The Morigaon district unit also demanded compensation of Rs 20 lakh each for the families of the six victims and called for strict action against the National Highways Authority over the incident.
The effigy-burning protest was organised to highlight the protesters demands and seek measures to prevent similar fatal accidents on the national highway in the future.
