Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma on August 31 intervened in a protest at Raha, holding discussions with protesters and persuading them to withdraw their agitation and the temporary blockade of the National Highway.
Several organisations, including the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and All Assam Students Union (AASU), had staged a protest demanding repair of the National Highway, toll tax exemption for local residents of Raha and construction of a service road alongside the Raha flyover.
During the protest, the Nagaon DC reached the spot and held discussions directly with the protesters regarding their demands. Following the interaction, the protesting organisations agreed to withdraw the agitation.
The protesters had also blocked the National Highway in Raha for some time. However, the blockade was lifted after the Deputy Commissioner engaged with them and assured them of discussions on the issues raised.
The development highlighted the administration's efforts to engage directly with protesters and address local grievances through dialogue.
