A five-month-old baby girl was rescued by police in Assam's Nagaon district after she was allegedly sold for Rs 50,000, while her mother reportedly fled to Kerala, police said.
The incident came to light after the baby's father, Faruk Hussain, lodged a complaint with the Sutirpar Police. Acting on the FIR, police traced and rescued the infant from Moirabari.
According to initial information, the mother allegedly sold her five-month-old daughter before leaving for Kerala. The circumstances that led to the alleged sale, including whether she acted under someone's influence or due to financial hardship, are currently under investigation.
Following the rescue, the baby girl was reunited with her father.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify all those involved and ascertain the motive behind the alleged sale of the infant.
