Bhutan–India Friendship Football Tournament 2025 kicks off with high energy in Samdrup Jongkhar

The Bhutan–India Friendship Football Tournament 2025 kicked off on a high note and enthusiasm at the Samdrup Jongkhar Public Ground in eastern Bhutan, marking another milestone in fostering cross-border harmony through sports. The event is being hosted by the Bhutan–India Friendship Association (BIFA).
The opening match on Saturday evening was inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Samdrup Jongkhar. The ceremony saw the presence of several key dignitaries, including Tamulpur Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, Senior Superintendent of Police Tabu Ram Pegu, BIFA Vice President Gupshwanam Datsu, and other Bhutanese officials.
A massive crowd of football enthusiasts filled the venue to witness the thrilling first clash between India’s Barpeta Radiance Club and Bhutan’s Changzong FC. In a tightly contested match, Barpeta Radiance FC secured a narrow 1–0 win after the halftime break, earning a spot in the next round. The team impressed spectators with strong defensive tactics and sharp attacking formations.
Organizers expressed optimism that the tournament will strengthen friendship, cultural ties, and mutual understanding among communities along the Bhutan–India border while promoting sporting spirit and entertainment.
