CPI(M) MLA Manoranjan Talukdar on February 28 said internal issues within the opposition alliance, particularly involving Raijor Dal, are expected to be resolved within the next two days.
He also made it clear that he will contest the upcoming elections from the Bhawanipur–Sorbhog constituency, irrespective of criticism or opposition.
Speaking to the media at Puthimari, Talukdar said the opposition’s internal dynamics are being closely scrutinised, but similar attention is not being paid to developments within the ruling NDA alliance. He questioned how many people are discussing the state of alliances within the NDA, particularly the BJP’s relationship with its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
Referring to recent statements by the Chief Minister on seat-sharing, Talukdar said it appears that the BJP–AGP alliance is nearing a breaking point, as clarity on how many seats will be allotted to the AGP is still lacking. He suggested that the BJP’s approach indicates that the alliance may not continue in its present form.
Reiterating his political stand, Talukdar said he has already taken a firm decision to contest elections from the Bhabanipur–Sarbhog constituency. “Whether people like it or not, I have decided that I will contest from Bhabanipur–Sarbhog,” he said, adding that elections will also be contested in Goreswar as part of the opposition’s strategy.
Talukdar’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Assam, with both the opposition bloc and the NDA witnessing intense speculation over alliances and seat-sharing arrangements ahead of the next Assembly elections.
