Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the NDA nominee for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, on May 12, said Assam was witnessing a “fortunate day” as Himanta Biswa Sarma prepared to take oath for another term as chief minister.
Speaking in Guwahati ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Dass said Sarma had been chosen by the people to further accelerate Assam’s development journey.
“It is a fortunate day for Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been chosen to develop Assam further,” Das said, adding that the presence of nearly 20 chief ministers from across the country reflected the significance of the occasion.
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s political future in the state, Das claimed that the party would continue to remain in power in Assam even in 2031.
“The BJP will form the government in 2031, too. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government will continue for 15 years,” he asserted.
Reacting to the announcement of his candidature for the Speaker’s post, Dass said he felt honoured and fortunate that the chief minister had reposed faith in him for the constitutional role.
“The Chief Minister has announced my name as a candidate for the Speaker’s post. I am very fortunate,” he said.
