Tension prevailed in Abhayapuri of Assam's Bongaigaon district after BJP workers staged a protest against the party’s candidate Bhupen Ray, soon after the much-awaited candidate list was announced.
Raising “Go Back” slogans, angry party workers expressed strong dissatisfaction over Ray’s candidature, which has sparked unrest within the local BJP unit. The protest took place at Ghilaguri, where party workers openly opposed his nomination.
Bhupen Ray, who joined the BJP from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) just two days ago, has reportedly failed to gain acceptance among grassroots party workers. Protesters stated that they are unhappy with his candidature and claimed that they are not familiar with him.
The agitating workers demanded that the party withdraw Ray’s candidature and instead nominate a dedicated BJP leader from the region. They argued that a long-serving local party worker should have been given the ticket.
The protesters also warned that if their demands are not met, they may field an independent candidate in the constituency, indicating possible internal dissent ahead of the elections
