Mira Borthakur Goswami, the Indian National Congress candidate for the Dispur Assembly seat, has appealed to voters to give her an opportunity to serve, asserting that she will address key issues faced by residents of the constituency.
Speaking during her campaign, Goswami said that public support would enable her to resolve longstanding problems and bring effective governance to Dispur. She also made a striking political claim, stating that even workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party may not back their own candidate in the constituency.
Invoking the issue surrounding Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, Goswami said that electing her to the Assembly would be a step towards ensuring justice. “To give justice to Zubeen Garg, we must get elected to the legislative assembly. After being elected, I will work to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg,” she stated.
Her remarks come amid heightened political rhetoric in the run-up to the Assam Assembly elections, with candidates increasingly invoking emotive and public-interest issues to consolidate voter support.
Meanwhile, former Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi has thanked the BJP after being named its candidate for the Dispur constituency in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, a day after he resigned from the Congress and joined the party.
Speaking to reporters, Bordoloi said he had not sought any position while joining the BJP, adding that his priority was to “work and play a more meaningful role” in public life. He pointed to his political experience, stating he has served as an MLA four times and held ministerial responsibilities for 15 years.
“I am grateful. I did not ask anything from the BJP when I decided to join, because what I needed was a platform to work and play a more meaningful role,” he said.
Bordoloi also indicated his willingness to work alongside Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, recalling their previous association. He said their earlier partnership had contributed to development efforts and helped address insurgency-related challenges in the state.
