Congress leader Ripun Bora on Wednesday, September 16 said the BJP would not be able to win the upcoming Nagaon bypoll, as he backed party candidate Sibamoni Bora during the filing of her nomination papers.
Speaking to reporters during the nomination process, Ripun Bora said the people of Nagaon would vote for the Congress and claimed that the BJP's political setbacks in the 2029 elections would begin in the constituency.
“The BJP cannot win Nagaon by any means. The people will vote for the Congress, and the BJP’s 2029 debacle will begin right here in Nagaon,” Bora said.
Asked whether All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal could emerge as a factor in the bypoll, Bora dismissed the possibility.
“Ajmal is not a factor. He is AIUDF, but with ‘HB’ in brackets. Everyone understands what that means,” he said, without elaborating on the remark.
The Nagaon bypoll is expected to see a contest involving the Congress, BJP and AIUDF, with the parties seeking to consolidate their support base in the constituency.
Sibamoni Bora is the Congress candidate for the bypoll and filed her nomination papers on Wednesday in the presence of party leaders and supporters.
