Assam Cabinet Minister for Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture, Sports and Youth Welfare, Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship, and Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture, Biswajit Daimary, on August 18 visited the Bodoland Silk Park at Adabari in Kokrajhar and reviewed its activities.
During the visit, Daimary interacted with BTC Sericulture Department Executive Member Karmeswar Ray and other officials to discuss the development of the silk sector, increasing production and expanding market opportunities for Bodoland silk.
Speaking to the media, Daimary said Bodoland silk has huge demand in the market and holds significant potential to reach both national and international markets.
He said the government would undertake initiatives to boost production, improve the quality of silk products and strengthen marketing efforts, with a particular focus on exploring export opportunities.
Daimary also emphasised the need to develop the Bodoland Silk Park as a major centre for silk production and value addition. He said strengthening the facility could create better opportunities for local sericulture farmers, weavers and entrepreneurs.
The visit comes amid efforts to further strengthen the silk industry in the Bodoland region and promote its traditional silk products in wider markets. The Bodoland Silk Park serves as an important facility for silk spinning, weaving, processing and value addition.
