Bodoland People's Front on May 9 celebrated its electoral success with a victory programme held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex auditorium near Kokrajhar town in Kokrajhar.
The celebration was organised following the party’s strong performance in the Assembly elections. Newly elected four MLAs from Kokrajhar district attended the event along with BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, BTC executive members, council representatives and party workers.
Addressing the media after the programme, Mohilary clarified that the party was not engaging in any “bargaining” over ministerial positions in the new government.
“If ministerial posts are given, it is fine; if not, that is also fine,” he said.
Mohilary stressed the need to strengthen the Bodoland Territorial Council and increase its budgetary allocation. He also said the BTC should receive greater administrative and developmental support from both the state and central governments.
Commenting on reports regarding demands for ministerial berths, Mohilary said any leader was free to seek a ministerial position as it was their personal right. Referring to party leader Sewli Mohilary’s reported interest in a ministerial role, he said it was her personal matter.
“The people have trusted us and they have expectations from us. That is why we have won the elections,” Mohilary said, adding that the party now has the responsibility to fulfil public expectations through development work and governance.
He further informed that the party would soon hold departmental review meetings and future decisions would be taken based on those discussions.
Mohilary also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government scheduled for May 12, and BPF leaders would also be present at the event.
