A concrete bridge constructed to provide access to the Model Anganwadi Centre at Shmashanpara in Dewangaon village of Assam's Bongaigaon district has remained unusable after its approach road was washed away by rainwater, leaving the structure disconnected from both ends.
Located in Shmashanpara, the bridge stands isolated in the middle without any road linking it to either side. While the bridge structure remains intact, the earthen approach road that once connected it was eroded during heavy rainfall and has not been restored since.
The bridge was built to improve connectivity to the Model Anganwadi Centre, but the loss of the approach road has rendered it inaccessible, defeating its intended purpose.
Residents say the washed-out approach has remained unrepaired for a prolonged period, leaving the bridge suspended without functional connectivity. As a result, the public infrastructure has remained out of use despite the completion of the bridge.
The disconnected bridge has become a striking example of incomplete infrastructure, with the absence of a rebuilt approach road preventing access to the facility it was meant to serve.
