With the Assam State Election Commission announcing September 22 as the date for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, preparations have gained momentum across the five districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The Kokrajhar district administration has stepped up efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner’s office, District Commissioner and Returning Officer Masanda M. Pertin informed that the process of filing nominations has already begun for the 12 council constituencies under Kokrajhar district.
Pertin said that all necessary arrangements are being put in place to conduct free, fair, and peaceful elections.
According to official data, a total of 70,0753 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the district. This includes 35,0407 male voters, 35,0340 female voters, and 5 third-gender voters. To facilitate voting, 942 polling stations will be set up across the district.
9 constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates,
2 constituencies are reserved for non-ST candidates, and
1 constituency is open to all candidates.
The District Commissioner emphasized that the administration is taking all necessary measures to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections. Security arrangements and logistical preparations are being strengthened to facilitate smooth polling and counting processes.
The BTC elections are significant in the political landscape of Assam, particularly in the BTR areas, and the administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure their successful conduct.
