Buddhist monks' body distributes relief, Rs 1 lakh cash aid to flood-hit families in Assam

The Purvanchal Bhikkhu Sangha, a Buddhist monks' organisation representing Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, on Sunday, August 2, distributed relief materials and cash assistance to families affected by the recent floods in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.
 

The relief drive was organised in collaboration with Cholapathar Yuba Sangha and Buddhist devotees from Margherita and Arunachal Pradesh.
 

The organisations distributed essential relief materials, including mosquito nets, food items, drinking water, slippers, phenyl and medicines, along with Rs 1 lakh in cash assistance, to more than 200 flood-affected people in the two districts.
 

Sivasagar and Charaideo were among the worst-hit districts during the recent wave of floods in Assam, which claimed 82 lives, displaced lakhs of people and caused extensive damage to homes, agricultural land, livestock and other property.
 

Purvanchal Bhikkhu Sangha General Secretary Nyanaloka Bhikkhu said the relief initiative was undertaken as part of the organisation's commitment to supporting people affected by the disaster.
 

"During this difficult time, it is our duty to serve people affected by the floods," he said.
 

He also appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to provide additional relief materials and expedite assistance for the reconstruction of damaged houses and rehabilitation of affected families.
