Cachar Police have arrested five people, including the owner of KADE Global Infrastructure LLP, in connection with an industrial accident at the company's rod manufacturing unit in Pangram under Udharband constituency that claimed the lives of four workers.
The arrested include the firm's owner, Rakesh Kumar Surana. The arrests were made following directions from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with police continuing a detailed investigation into the incident.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has also visited the accident site to collect evidence as part of the probe.
The Assam government has announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for the family of each of the four deceased workers.
Udharband MLA Rajdeep Goala, accompanied by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta, handed over the financial assistance to the bereaved families and assured them of all possible support from the state government.
Officials said the investigation is underway and that stringent legal action will be taken against those found responsible for negligence or violations of industrial safety norms.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over workplace safety and compliance with industrial safety regulations in Assam.
