Residents of the Barkhola assembly constituency in Cachar district have renewed demands for MLA Kishore Nath to be given a ministerial post, saying the area needs stronger representation to speed up long-pending development work.
Local people said several parts of the constituency have remained underdeveloped for years and that earlier elected representatives were unable to bring significant improvement.
They pointed out that the area was earlier part of the Hailakandi district before delimitation brought it under Barkhola in Cachar.
According to residents, the constituency voted for Nath with the hope that he would address basic civic needs and push development in every village.
They now believe a ministerial position for the MLA would help the region secure greater attention from the state government.
The demand has reportedly been raised before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with supporters arguing that ministerial responsibility could help end what they describe as years of neglect.
