Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reacted strongly to the recent Delhi blast, describing it as a disturbing reflection of a “new dimension of extremism” in the country.
“Earlier, we believed that a lack of education drove people towards extremism,” Sarma said while addressing the media. “But now, we realise that even education cannot guarantee loyalty to the nation. If a person cannot sing Vande Mataram from their heart, they can never truly be loyal to India.”
The Chief Minister further remarked that education alone cannot reform a person’s core ideology. “Till now, we were taught that education eradicates extremism. But today, we see that even educated people—sometimes doctors—can be more dangerous. No matter how educated one becomes, their true nature does not change,” he said.
Sarma’s remarks come amid an ongoing nationwide debate on the ideological motivations behind the blast, as security agencies continue their investigation and have made multiple arrests in connection with the case.
