CCTV footage has surfaced showing Assam’s Himashree Boro walking along a railway platform and boarding a departing train shortly before she was found dead beside a railway track in Andhra Pradesh, as railway police investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death.
In the footage, Boro is seen walking on the platform when an unidentified man approaches her and appears to attempt a conversation. As the train starts moving, she boards the train along with other passengers who can be seen hurrying to get inside. The man who had approached her also appears to attempt to board the train but later gets off.
Another short video has also emerged, reportedly recorded by Boro during the journey and sent to a friend. In the video, she is seen standing in the aisle of the train surrounded by several men. The circumstances in which the video was recorded and the identities of the people seen around her are yet to be established.
Boro, a resident of Chapaidong near Bonda in Narengi on the outskirts of Guwahati, had travelled to Visakhapatnam on September 30 as part of an Assamese dance troupe to participate in a programme. Following the event, she began her return journey to Guwahati aboard the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express and was travelling alone.
Her family said they remained in regular contact with her during the journey and last spoke to her at around 1:30 pm on October 6. Her phone was subsequently switched off, and the family was unable to contact her.
After being alerted about her disappearance, the family searched coach S2 of the train, where Boro had been travelling. They recovered two bags and documents believed to belong to her.
The family has also alleged that some young men travelling in the same coach made obscene gestures towards Boro. They further said she had been in frequent contact with a woman identified as Jyoti Choudhury during the journey. The allegations are yet to be independently established.
The family had alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Panikhaiti police outpost in Guwahati after losing contact with Boro and appealed for information about her whereabouts.
Railway police later recovered Boro’s body beside a railway track at Tekkalipuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Wednesday and informed her family.
Investigators have collected CCTV and other video footage linked to Boro’s journey as part of the probe. The exact cause of her death, the circumstances in which she left the train and whether any other person was involved remain under investigation.
