A Class 10 student lost his life after being struck by lightning while playing football in Upendranagar F.V. village under Gossaigaon subdivision of Assam on Sunday afternoon, June 14.
The deceased has been identified as Theophil Murmu (16), son of Bajun Murmu and a resident of Upendra village.
According to local sources, Theophil was playing football with his friends in a field when lightning struck during inclement weather. He sustained critical injuries in the incident.
Family members immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Kokrajhar for post-mortem examination on Monday.
The untimely death of the young student has cast a pall of gloom over his family and the entire village, with residents mourning the loss of a promising young life. Local people have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
