A team of the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell is conducting an inquiry into the implementation of a rainwater harvesting scheme executed by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Nagaon district during the tenure of the Congress government led by former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The scheme was reportedly implemented in schools and religious institutions across the district. Vigilance officials have been carrying out inspections at multiple locations in Batadrava and Samaguri as part of the investigation.
Officials associated with the inquiry said the vigilance team has been stationed at the Public Works Department inspection bungalow in Batadrava for the past few days and has been visiting educational and religious institutions where the projects were undertaken. The team is examining records and verifying the status of the infrastructure created under the scheme.
On Friday, June 12, the investigation continued in several schools in the Samaguri area.
The inquiry follows allegations of irregularities in the execution of the project and the utilisation of funds allocated for it. Allegations have also been raised regarding the possible involvement of certain officials and engineers of the PHE Department, as well as political functionaries associated with the then Congress government.
