A truck carrying coconuts worth over Rs 3.46 lakh from Assam's Batadrava to Bihar has reportedly gone missing under mysterious circumstances, prompting the trader to file a police complaint alleging fraud by the transport company and the driver.
The incident has caused concern among traders at Kadamoni Market in Batadrava, one of Assam's largest interstate coconut trading hubs, from where coconuts are regularly supplied to various parts of the country.
According to the complaint, trader Jiarul Islam had arranged transportation of a consignment of coconuts to Muzaffarpur in Bihar through Maharashtra-based A.K. Transport on June 16.
The consignment, valued at Rs 3,46,390, was loaded onto a truck and dispatched from Kadamoni Market. However, shortly after the vehicle began its journey, communication with the driver was reportedly lost.
The trader became suspicious when the truck failed to reach its destination within the expected timeframe. Repeated attempts to contact the driver and representatives of the transport company proved unsuccessful, he alleged.
Unable to trace either the vehicle or the consignment, Islam approached Batadrava Police Station and lodged an FIR against the transport company and the driver.
In his complaint, the trader alleged that the disappearance of the truck was a planned act of fraud and sought immediate police intervention to trace the vehicle and recover the consignment.
The incident has sparked anxiety among traders in the Kadamoni coconut market, with the whereabouts of the truck and its cargo still unknown.
Batadrava Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
