Congress demands PM Modi, Amit Shah visit flood-hit Assam as death toll reaches 75

Congress MLA Joy Prakash Das on Wednesday, July 29 said the flood situation in Assam was likely to deteriorate further, expressing concern over the increasing loss of lives and urging both the state and central governments to strengthen relief efforts.

Addressing the media, Das said the flood-related death toll had reached 75 and continued to rise, describing the situation as a major humanitarian disaster. He said the loss of lives was deeply distressing and called on the Assam government to provide an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each deceased victim.

The Congress legislator also announced that all Congress MLAs in the state would contribute their previous month's salaries to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund as a gesture of support for flood relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Calling for greater involvement from the Centre, Das urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit the flood-affected areas of Assam to assess the ground situation and witness the challenges being faced by affected residents.

He said the state required sustained support to address the humanitarian crisis and ensure adequate assistance reached those impacted by the floods.
