Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his visit to Charuwabakhra in Dhubri district on May 15 slammed Congress, claiming the opposition has lost the support of both Hindus and Muslims.
Addressing the public and media during his inspection of the proposed thermal power project site in Chirakuta, the Chief Minister highlighted BJP’s recent electoral performance and outlined the party’s strategy for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections.
“In just a matter of days, Congress has been abandoned by both Hindus and Muslims. In the recent panchayat elections, BJP secured eight district council seats even in areas with a 100 per cent Muslim population. This demonstrates that people are now voting based on development and delivery, not divisive politics,” CM Sarma asserted.
He further accused the Congress party of repeatedly threatening to cancel the flagship Orunodoi welfare scheme during Assembly sessions. “Instead of focusing on people’s welfare, Congress keeps politicizing welfare benefits. The public has taken note,” he added.
Outlining BJP’s strategy for the BTR polls, CM Sarma said, “We will contest only in those constituencies where we are confident of victory. In seats where we lack strength, we will not participate. Our focus is on winning, not just contesting.”
In a major political statement, the Chief Minister announced that on September 10, the government would reveal detailed information regarding alleged links between Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan. “We have evidence, and we will present it before the public,” Dr. Sarma claimed.
Earlier in the day, CM Sarma conducted a ground-level assessment of the land allocated for a Rs 20,000 crore thermal power project at Chirakuta under the Chapar revenue circle. The visit marks a crucial step in advancing one of Assam’s major energy infrastructure initiatives.
