Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah has announced a strategic roadmap for the party as it gears up for the 2026 state elections. Speaking on the future course of action, Borah expressed confidence in unseating the ruling BJP government led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s term will end after 490 days, on May 10, 2026. Congress will return to power after that,” said Borah. Outlining the party’s immediate priorities, he revealed that Congress leaders and workers would focus on the upcoming panchayat elections in January and February 2025.
Post-panchayat elections, Borah announced a major organizational overhaul from the booth level to the state level. The party also plans to launch a two-phase statewide outreach initiative. In the first phase, a "Jonai to Sonai Yatra" will traverse 45 assembly constituencies. This will be followed by the second phase, "Sadiya to Mandia Yatra," covering an additional 47 constituencies.
Borah further highlighted the Congress’s participation in the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) "Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Yatra," a campaign to uphold constitutional values. “Every party worker and leader, from the grassroots to the state level, will actively participate in this yatra,” he added.
