Congress MP from the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency and senior party leader Pradyut Bordoloi on February 26 expressed confidence that the Congress will stage a strong comeback in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, citing growing public discontent against the ruling BJP.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Margherita, Bordoloi said the mood on the ground has clearly shifted against the BJP government.
“The Congress party has been working for the last 6-7 months at the booth level to strengthen the party base. We have also rasied issues to the public via different mediums and programs,” he said.
Referring to the political significance of the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency, Bordoloi said the Congress continues to enjoy strong grassroots support in the region. “Margherita has always stood with democratic and secular forces. The people here are politically aware and will give a fitting reply in 2026 and this time many prospective candidates have come up to fight the seat,” he added.
Bordoloi, a four-time MLA from Margherita, former cabinet minister and a two-time Lok Sabha MP claimed that the Congress is strengthening its organisational base across Upper Assam and tea garden areas, and that the party will fight the 2026 elections with unity and a clear vision. “We are reconnecting with the people and addressing their real issues. The Congress is ready,” Bordoloi asserted.
The veteran leader said the coming Assembly election would be decisive for Assam’s future, adding that voters would choose development, harmony and constitutional values over what he termed as “divisive politics.”
