A controversy has surfaced over a flood relief shelter at Boralimari Char under the Morigaon constituency, after certain sections of the media reported that the structure was constructed using funds allocated by the Tiwa Autonomous Council.
Local sources have questioned the claim, asking who actually built the flood shelter and under whose patronage “misleading information” was allegedly circulated.
According to residents, the flood shelter was constructed in 2023 with financial assistance from the Sarat Chandra Kagati Charitable Trust.
The project was reportedly completed under the supervision of the then Morigaon Deputy Commissioner, Devashish Sharma, and handed over for the benefit of the people of Boralimari Char.
The issue has triggered political reactions, with locals alleging that some groups have begun indulging in “cheap politics” over the shelter.
Although the building was constructed by contractor Joydev Baruah, recent media reports claimed that it was built with approximately Rs 60 lakh from funds allocated by the Tiwa Autonomous Council.
The claim has reportedly caused resentment among residents of the char area, who maintain that the shelter predates the alleged council funding and was completed through charitable support.
The matter has now raised questions over accountability and the accuracy of information being circulated regarding development works in the region.
