Country-made 9mm pistol seized in Assam's Sivasagar, two apprehended

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Assam's Sivasagar Police recovered a 9mm country-made pistol along with an empty magazine during an operation in the town on February 23.
According to sources, the weapon was being transported from Amguri towards Sivasagar in a Toyota Fortuner (registration number DL 3 CBD 7208). Police intercepted the vehicle at the ASTC Tri-Junction in Sivasagar town and apprehended two individuals in possession of the firearm.
The vehicle, the weapon, and two mobile phones were seized during the operation.
The arrested persons have been identified as Pallav Saikia alias Mun of Padumoni Japisajia under Selenghat Police Station in Jorhat district, and Bharat Saikia of Jorhat. Police said Pallav Saikia is a former Indian Army personnel.
Sources further revealed that Saikia had earlier faced allegations of links with a cattle syndicate. Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain further details and possible connections.
