A daily wage labourer was killed after being crushed by a soil-laden dumper truck allegedly engaged in illegal soil transportation in Assam’s Charaideo district, triggering widespread concern among residents over unchecked dumper movement in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Haren Rajuwar, a resident of Lukhurakhan village under the Kanubari area. Rajuwar, who reportedly supported his family through daily wage work, was also a former secretary of the ATSA Kanubari branch.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on April 28 at around 5:30 pm when an allegedly illegally operated dumper truck carrying soil hit Rajuwar. The impact reportedly crushed his head, leading to his death on the spot.
Following the incident, fear and panic have reportedly gripped Lukhurakhan village and adjoining areas due to the frequent and allegedly reckless movement of dumpers involved in illegal soil transportation.
Residents alleged that illegal soil excavation, transportation, and sale have been continuing openly in the Kanubari area. Locals further claimed that those involved in the activity have allegedly been operating by managing officials of the Forest Department and other concerned authorities.
The incident has intensified public anger, with several residents questioning when the concerned departments and district administration would initiate action against the alleged illegal operations.
Local residents have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and sought strict legal action against those responsible for the alleged illegal soil transportation as well as the fatal accident.
