Senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia has candidly acknowledged the existence of factional lobbying within the party, stating that internal groupism is a reality that cannot be denied.
Speaking to reporters, Saikia admitted that “there are lobbies in the Congress” and said it would serve no purpose to deny the truth. “Lobbying happens in Congress; there is no benefit in lying about it,” he remarked.
The senior leader further conceded that factional politics operates within the party structure and described it as a longstanding issue. In a tone seen as unusually forthright, Saikia also expressed a sense of helplessness, admitting that it is difficult to completely prevent such internal lobbying.
His remarks come at a time when the Congress in Assam is witnessing internal churn and leadership realignments ahead of the upcoming elections.
Saikia’s statement is being viewed as a rare public admission of organisational challenges within the party.
