Relentless rainfall across Assam has caused the Buridehing River in Margherita to overflow, triggering severe floods in several villages under the Margherita Co-District.
Among the worst affected are Rodduba Dehing Poria and Bhittorpowai, where floodwaters surged in overnight, creating panic and trapping residents. While some managed to flee to higher ground, many others remain stranded.
Local reports say that though a few affected people have taken refuge in safer places, administrative assistance has yet to reach them. The Buridehing River continues to rise, leaving riverside residents gripped by fear.
Citizens have blamed the absence of embankments for the flooding in Rodduba and urged the state government to take immediate action to construct protective structures.
Meanwhile, the Margherita Co-District administration has set up a relief camp for affected families, though the public continues to demand more robust and immediate rescue and relief efforts.
