Floodwaters from the Diju River have inundated several areas of Kaliabor in Assam, affecting residential areas, agricultural land and fishery ponds as the river continues to rise.
Shiyalekhaiti and Khalihamari are among the areas affected by the flooding, with several houses submerged. Hundreds of bighas of transplanted paddy fields have also been inundated, raising concerns over crop losses for farmers in the region.
Several fishery ponds spread across hundreds of bighas of land have also been submerged by the floodwaters, potentially affecting local fish farmers.
The flooding has also disrupted road connectivity in the area. Water is flowing over the Public Works Department (PWD) road connecting Amoni, Shiyalekhaiti, Shivsthan and Misa, affecting movement along the route.
The situation comes amid continuing flood-related concerns in Assam, where rising water levels in rivers have affected several districts and communities.
