Residents of Abhayapuri in Assam's Bongaigaon district have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Jail Road, alleging that the badly damaged stretch has become a major inconvenience for commuters.
According to locals, even a brief spell of rain leaves the road waterlogged, with large potholes turning into pools of stagnant water, severely disrupting vehicular movement.
The road, a nearly 2-km Public Works Department (PWD) stretch connecting Borigaon-Dharmapur Road to Rajbari via Palpara, serves as an important alternative route whenever traffic congestion builds up in Abhayapuri town.
Residents said the muddy and uneven road has made it difficult for ambulances, school and college students, and other commuters to travel safely. Thousands of people reportedly use the route every day despite its poor condition.
Locals alleged that neither the administration nor public representatives have taken steps to repair the road, which has remained in a dilapidated state for the past three years.
Demanding immediate intervention, residents have urged the authorities to reconstruct the road at the earliest to ensure safe and smooth connectivity for the public.
