Amid heightened political activity ahead of the elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, March 22 visited Haflong in Dima Hasao district, where he engaged with key community stakeholders and outlined the government’s roadmap for the hill region.
During his visit, Sarma held detailed discussions with representatives of apex bodies of various ethnic communities in the district, in the absence of local MLA Nandita Garlosa. The interaction focused on addressing regional concerns and strengthening coordination with community leadership in the run-up to the polls.
The Chief Minister also extended his best wishes to BJP candidate Rupali Langthasa, signaling the party’s campaign push in the strategically important hill constituency. In the presence of Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa, Sarma held a meeting with Executive Members and other council representatives to review administrative priorities and political strategy.
A key highlight of the visit was Sarma’s assurance regarding administrative restructuring in the hill district. He stated that the process to create two new districts in Dima Hasao would be initiated after the elections. Emphasizing an inclusive approach, the Chief Minister said the decision would be taken based on the views and consensus of all stakeholders.
Addressing security concerns, Sarma strongly condemned the recent attack in Tinsukia, terming it unacceptable and reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
Exuding confidence ahead of the polls, the Chief Minister asserted that the BJP-led alliance would return to power, citing public support and the government’s development initiatives across Assam.
