A robbery was reported from the Morikolong area of Nagaon late at night on April 23, leaving a doctor and his wife seriously injured, according to sources.
According to preliminary sources, a group of unidentified assailants broke into the residence of Dr Ranjit Saikia and looted the premises. During the incident, the attackers allegedly assaulted the doctor and his wife using iron rods, causing severe injuries to both.
The injured couple was immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Das, visited the crime scene soon after the incident to take stock of the situation. A team from Nagaon Police, along with forensic experts, has initiated a detailed investigation.
Police have begun collecting evidence from the site and are working to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
