In a major anti-drug operation, the Barpeta district administration and Assam Police on July 12 destroyed seized narcotic substances worth Rs 5.16 crore at the Barpeta Police Reserve Playground.
The destroyed contraband had been seized by police from different parts of the district over an extended period during various anti-narcotics operations.
According to officials, the destroyed drugs included 1,068 grams of heroin, 133 kg of ganja, 58,217 Yaba tablets, 494 capsules, and 123 bottles of cough syrup. The total market value of the narcotics destroyed was estimated at Rs 5,16,31,810.
The destruction of the seized drugs was carried out following approval from the Drugs Disposal Committee and in the presence of Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak, In-Charge Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya, senior police officials, and Excise Department officials.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying the crackdown on drug trafficking and ensuring the safe disposal of seized narcotic substances in accordance with legal procedure
