Allegations of electoral misconduct have surfaced in Bajali district, Assam with several contesting candidates raising serious concerns against the district election commission following the recently concluded Panchayat elections.
A controversy has emerged in Ward No. 2 of the Hathinapur Gaon Panchayat after Aliya Khatun, a candidate who secured 351 votes and came in third, allegedly obtained the certificate of victory meant for Anjuara Begum, the actual winner with 409 votes.
The incident has sparked outrage among Anjuara Begum’s supporters, who have formally accused the authorities of gross negligence and procedural lapses.
Local sources indicate that tensions have intensified in the region, as this alleged blunder has called into question the credibility of the vote verification and result declaration process.
In a parallel development, residents of Ward No. 3 under the 16 No. Kuruwaha Panchayat have also reported irregularities in the election proceedings, further eroding public trust in the electoral machinery.
