Congress MP Rakibul Hussain on April 30 said that exit polls should not be trusted and asserted that the Congress alliance is confident of forming the government in Assam after the election results are declared on May 4.
Addressing a press conference at his residence in Dhubri, Hussain said a team of Congress MPs and MLAs visited the strong room at Gauripur PC Institute Model Higher Secondary School, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from five Assembly constituencies of Dhubri district have been kept under security.
He alleged that the BJP is trying to create a different narrative through exit polls and expressed dissatisfaction over the projections being circulated.
Rakibul Hussain also raised concerns over alleged discrepancies in Form 17C and urged the Election Commission of India to ensure proper and transparent counting of votes.
Referring to past election predictions, Hussain said that in 2021, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had claimed the BJP would win 100 seats but the party eventually secured around 60 seats.
“This time they are talking about winning 80 seats, which means BJP may end up getting only around 40 seats,” Hussain remarked.
The Congress MP further claimed that silent voters and young voters would play a major role in this election.
He also said many young voters were heard chanting “Joy Zubeen Da” after casting their votes, which he described as a sign of public sentiment and change.
Hussain asserted that Congress and its alliance partners are set to form the next government in Assam.
He further alleged that BJP leaders have started discussing “betrayal” and internal issues because they are sensing defeat in the elections.
Among those present during the press conference were MLAs A K Rashid Alam and Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar, APCC General Secretary Arun Tiwari, Congress leader Deep Bayan, and Congress candidates from five Assembly constituencies of Dhubri district.
