Farmers' organisation KMSS demands rehabilitation of evicted families, seeks halt to evictions until High Court verdict

The Bongaigaon district administration on Wednesday, August 5, issued an emergency flood advisory after the Manas and Aie-Manas rivers rose above the danger mark following the release of a large volume of water from Bhutan's Kurichhu Hydroelectric Project and forecasts of continuous rainfall in the district.
 

The advisory, issued by the District Administration and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), urged residents to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to safety measures as the flood situation is likely to worsen.
 

The administration has advised people not to visit the banks of the Manas and Aie-Manas rivers until further notice. It has also prohibited all activities in the rivers, including fishing, swimming, bathing and boating, warning that rising water levels pose a serious risk.
 

Residents have been asked not to attempt crossing submerged roads, bridges or flooded stretches and to keep children and livestock away from riverbanks and inundated areas.
 

People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been directed to stay alert and remain prepared to move to safer locations if the situation deteriorates.
 

The administration has also urged the public to rely only on official advisories and updates issued by the district administration and the DDMA, cautioning against misinformation.
 

Appealing for public cooperation, the district administration asked residents to exercise utmost caution and follow all safety instructions to prevent any loss of life or property.
