Assam Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Monday, November 24 inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Pathsala Press Club, where he fondly recalled his early days in journalism while addressing the gathering.
The modern press club facility has been built on prime land donated by the family of late journalist and writer Satish Chandra Choudhury, located in the heart of Pathsala. Dass, who began his career as a rural reporter, had also extended financial support toward the construction of the new building. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of top officials of the Bajali district administration, political leaders, former journalists, authors, and social activists.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Minister highlighted the importance of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly session, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 25. He said the final session of the current Assembly would play a pivotal role in shaping a new Assam, and appealed to the Opposition to uphold democratic values and ensure a productive session. He further remarked that the ruling party views the role of the Opposition as a “blessing” in a democracy.
In a significant announcement for Panchayat employees, Dass said the current government has taken steps that no previous administration had attempted. He added that funds earlier used for advertisement hoardings of the Panchayat Department will now be redirected to employee welfare initiatives, marking a shift in prioritising grassroots development and staff support.
