AIUDF chief and Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Badruddin Ajmal on October 3 reacted to the FIR filed against him by BJP candidate Devashish Sharma, saying the complaint would work as a “blessing” for him ahead of the October 6 election.
“Filing an FIR is a blessing for me. The people of Nagaon will make me win by 10 lakh votes and take revenge for Devashish Sharma,” Ajmal said.
He further said his electoral contest would be against candidates of both the BJP and Congress.
Sharma filed an FIR at Nagaon Sadar Police Station on October 3, alleging that Ajmal made false and defamatory remarks against him during the ongoing bypoll campaign. The BJP candidate has accused Ajmal of referring to him as a “murderer” during a campaign meeting.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled for October 6, with counting of votes set for October 9. The contest includes BJP's Devashish Sharma, Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, among others.
The FIR row has added another flashpoint to an already high-profile campaign in the constituency, with the three principal candidates intensifying their campaign ahead of polling.
