Forest personnel accused of assaulting youth in Assam's Kachuwa, complaint filed

A youth has accused forest personnel of physically assaulting him and attempting to falsely implicate him in a drug trafficking case in Assam's Kachuwa area, prompting a police complaint and raising serious allegations of abuse of authority.

According to the allegations, the incident occurred near an eviction site where the youth had stopped his scooter by the roadside to make a phone call. An argument reportedly broke out after a forest guard confronted him, which allegedly escalated into a physical assault.

The youth claimed that he did not recognise the individual as a forest official because the personnel was not wearing an official uniform at the time of the incident.

The complainant further alleged that despite repeatedly apologising and pleading for mercy, he was assaulted and later taken to a nearby forest camp, where he was allegedly subjected to further physical abuse by forest personnel.

In a serious allegation, the youth claimed that officials at the camp placed a container containing suspected narcotics in his hands and photographed him in an alleged attempt to falsely implicate him in a drug trafficking case.

The allegations have raised questions over the origin of the suspected contraband allegedly used in the incident and the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to frame the complainant.

Following the incident, the youth lodged a complaint at Kachuwa Police Station seeking legal action against those involved. He was later referred to a hospital in Nagaon for advanced medical treatment.

No official statement from the Forest Department or the police regarding the allegations was immediately available. The claims made by the complainant could not be independently verified, and an investigation is awaited.
