In a poignant tribute to Assam’s beloved cultural icon Zubeen Garg, a kopou flower (fox-tail orchid) a symbol of Assamese love and tradition was placed on a 120-year-old tree at the Circuit House in Bokakhat.
The heartfelt gesture was carried out by Anupam Saikia, a Bollywood technical artist and childhood friend of Zubeen Garg. The tribute was an initiative of Sameer Roy, a former cultural journalist from Mumbai, who wished to commemorate the artist’s undying spirit through nature’s symbolism.
Speaking at the occasion, Saikia fondly recalled his friend’s enduring influence and tireless contributions to Assamese music and culture.
“Zubeen worked selflessly for the people of Assam and for the preservation of our art and culture. His legacy is rare, timeless, and deeply rooted in the hearts of millions,” Saikia expressed emotionally.
The fox-tail orchid, often associated with purity, affection, and the vibrant essence of Assamese identity, was chosen to represent Garg’s ever-blooming impact on art, music, and humanity.
Local residents, artists, and admirers of Zubeen Garg gathered around the century-old tree, marking the moment as a symbolic connection between nature, memory, and artistry a tribute befitting an artist who dedicated his life to uplifting Assamese culture.
