Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday, May 13 alleged that the FIR registered against Congress leader Pawan Khera was aimed at preventing public discussion on alleged illegal properties linked to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, Gogoi spoke about Khera’s arrival in the city in connection with a case related to Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. He stated that the Congress leader would cooperate with the investigation and follow all judicial procedures in the matter.
Gogoi alleged that the FIR was politically motivated and intended to discourage questions regarding the Chief Minister’s alleged assets and properties.
He further claimed that the public does not believe the Chief Minister’s assertion that he owns no property.
The Congress MP, however, did not provide documentary evidence while making the allegations during the media interaction.
There was no immediate response from the Assam Chief Minister or the state government regarding Gogoi’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
