Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming that out of four members in the latter’s family, three are foreign nationals.
Speaking to the media during a visit to Silchar, Sarma said, “You all know, in his (Gaurav Gogoi’s) family, out of four members, three are foreigners. He came to Silchar — that is the only big thing. Who knows, someday even he will go abroad.”

The remark is seen as a political jibe aimed at questioning Gogoi’s commitment to Assam and India, as tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress continue to escalate in the state ahead of major political events.
Earlier on June 2, the newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Gaurav Gogo, in response to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s past remarks concerning Gogoi’s Pakistan visit, the Congress leader noted that after his reply, the Chief Minister has chosen to remain silent.
In a subtle dig, Gogoi remarked that "they may continue their silence until September 10."
