Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi strong voiced his opposition to what he described as "insensitive and cruel remarks" made by BJP leaders during the budget discussion regarding the caste census.
Highlighting the significance of the caste census for many communities in India, particularly those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), Gogoi criticized the BJP for mocking their demands.

"Yesterday's discussion on the caste census saw a shocking display of insensitivity from BJP leaders," Gogoi stated. "The demands of SC, ST, and OBC communities for a caste census were ridiculed, leading to their humiliation within the Parliament. It is deeply unfortunate that, later in the evening, the Prime Minister not only shared but also praised the speech that insulted Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis."
Gogoi emphasized that the Congress party's protest is a fight for the rights of marginalized communities, underscoring the importance of the caste census. "We are here fighting for their right, fighting for the caste census, and that is why we protested," he asserted, reiterating the Congress party's commitment to ensuring respect and recognition for these communities within the legislative framework.
